On Saturday, April 5th , a Run /Walk will take place starting at 7:00 am for registration at Tucson High School. Please park at the parking garage located on 8th street and continue to the registration booths which will be located at the center of the Tucson High School mall. Accompany us at our opening ceremonies with the Consuelo Tree decoration, Zumba and a guest speaker. The run/walk itself will start at 8:30am. Funds raised will support the Consuelo I Aguilar Scholarship Fund, administered by the UA Department of Mexican American Studies (MAS).
In conjunction with the Run / Walk, Tucson High Unity Festival will take place at that same location between 11:30am and 3:00pm. Please feel free to join the festival after our main event.
Aguilar passed away in February 2009 at the age of 27 after a valiant fight against an extremely aggressive form of cancer. A UA graduate, she was committed to improving conditions in the Mexican American community, and helping high school students through her work in the Tucson Unified School District’s Ethnic Studies Department.
The Consuelo I. Aguilar Scholarship Fund supports male and female high school seniors who plan to attend the UA. Those students must have a minimum 3.25 GPA, a desire to declare a major in Mexican American Studies, and proof of community involvement with underrepresented minorities. Economic need is not a consideration.
To make the run/walk successful, schools, clubs, organizations, teams, sororities and fraternities, as well as individuals are invited to join us in running/walking and raising cancer awareness in our communities. All participants should plan on a $35 registration fee (which includes a T-shirt). Donors do not need be present to contribute. Any wishing to pre-register may do so at a registration fee of $30 no later than Tuesday April 1st. Otherwise you must register the day of the event itself.
