Requirements

 

The coursework requirement will be

  • One article evaluation as Groupwork The article to be used for this exercise are:
    • Case, D & Richardson, J. (1990). Predictors of Student Performance with Emphasis on Gender and Ethnic Determinants. Journal of Education for Library and Information Science. 30, 3. Winter. 163-180. In coursepack.
  • One paper.
  • Statistics Quizzes. There will be two online statistical quizzes. Each of these will remain accessible for several weeks, and you will be able to make several attempts at them (with the grade of your best try to count). These quizzes will give you some indication of how well you understand the material, and the feedback provided to you will give some guidance on how to direct your studies.
  • Article Evaluations Five research articles in our field are included in the readings package. Students will evaluate two (2) of these articles as works of research. The articles to be used for this exercise are:
    • Borgman, C.L., Hirsh, S.G., Walter, V.A., & Gallagher, A.L. "Children's Searching Behavior on Browsing and Keyword Online Catalogs: The Science Library Catalog Project. "Journal of the American Society for Information Science, (1995) 46 (9), 663-684. In coursepack.
    • Buttlar, Lois, and William Caynon "Recruitment of Librarians Into the Profession: The Minority Perspective" Library and Information Science Research volume 14, (1992) pages 259-280. In coursepack.
    • Wiegand, Wayne A. "Oregon's Public Libraries during the First World War" Oregon Historical Quarterly 90/1 (Spring, 1989) pages 39-63. In coursepack. (46-53 are all illustrations and are not in the readings package.)
    • Williams, Robert V. "Public Library Development in the United States, 1850-1870: An Empirical Analysis" Journal of Library History 21/1 (Winter, 1986) pages 177-201. In coursepack.

    GAT

     

    The GATs for this course have yet to be appointed

    Please favor GATs over myself for all your questions except those on central academic issues. I believe that faculty, myself in this instance, should do all the teaching and assessing, and that is my practice. But it is viable with the student numbers that I am facing only if I am not distracted by concerns that the GATs could answer (such as why your Web Browser on your computer is not working properly).
