Introduction

This course examines the principles of identifying, selecting, acquiring, managing and evaluating information resources for various groups of users in different information environments. The objectives of this course are to:

• acquire an understanding of the principles involved in the production and dissemination of information;
  
• become aware of the methodologies used in determining the information needs of users in libraries and other inforamtion environments;
  
• gain a knowledge of the user study research literature and its application to information resource development; and,
  
• become familliar with the principles and practices involved in the development of information resources and with the process of resource selection and evaluation.

This is the syllabus for this course. There is no paper surrogate.

Throughout this course, the emphasis will be on the learning. Grades are one way of evaluating performance but they are not the sole focus of this course. Your participation in this class is an indication that you are interested in learning first.
