Course Goals:

Introduction to Microcomputers to introduce you to various PC software applications and the Internet. Five major areas will be covered:

• Operating Systems
• Internet and World Wide Web
• Word Processing
• Databases
• Spreadsheets

Grading:

• Grades will be based on the following:

• Complete competency exercises in DOS--10 pts.
• Complete competency exercises in Windows--10 pts.
• Join and participate in the class email list and one other list (personal choice)--10 pts.
• Complete a database search test--10 pts.
• Perform an Internet search on a topic of personal interest--10 pts.
• FTP two documents on a topic of personal interest--10 pts.
• Create and mount a homepage--10 pts.
• Write a resume using Word for Windows--10 pts.
• Create a spreadsheet using Excel for Windows--10 pts.
• Your choice with instructor's approval--10 pts.

The grading scale will be as follows:

• A: 90 - 100 points
• B: 80 - 89 points
• C: 70 - 79 points
