This course provides an introduction to the archival profession. It will focus on theory and practice in the areas of appraisal and acquisition, arrangement and description, preservation, reference, exhibitions and outreach, electronic resources, records management, and the administration of archival repositories. Students will also learn about the history of the archival profession and how one becomes an archivist. Classes will feature hands-on exercises as well as several guest lecturers. Instructors Shan Sutton and John Murphy are both archivist at the University of Arizona Library Special Collections.
