| History of the Book Course, January 3-7, 2005
The course will cover a wide variety of topics
concerned with the history and development of the book in its various
formats, both as a physical object and as the bearer of intellectual
content.
The first will concentrate on the physical properties of the objects
that carried written and pictorial texts, such as tablets, scrolls,
and codices, and will include the bibliographic description of books.
The second will concern cultural and social history as evidenced through
these publications, including censorship, typography, and the development
of intellectual inquiry
