Course Goals:
Introduction to Microcomputers to introduce you to various PC software
applications and the Internet. Five major areas will be covered:
- Operating Systems
- Internet and World Wide Web
- Word Processing
- Databases
- Spreadsheets
Grading:
- Grades will be based on the following:
- Complete competency exercises in DOS--10 pts.
- Complete competency exercises in Windows--10 pts.
- Join and participate in the class email list and one other list (personal
choice)--10 pts.
- Complete a database search test--10 pts.
- Perform an Internet search on a topic of personal interest--10 pts.
- FTP two documents on a topic of personal interest--10 pts.
- Create and mount a homepage--10 pts.
- Write a resume using Word for Windows--10 pts.
- Create a spreadsheet using Excel for Windows--10 pts.
- Your choice with instructor's approval--10 pts.
The grading scale will be as follows:
- A 90 - 100 points
- B 80 - 89 points
- C 70 - 79 points
