SIRLS appoints Dr. Hong Cui as Assistant Professor, Information TechnologyThe School of Information Resources and Library Science at The University of Arizona has added an academic research specialist and award-winning teacher to its faculty. Hong Cui will join the school this fall as an assistant professor of information technologies, a full-time, tenure-track position. Cui has a doctoral degree in library and information science and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also has a master’s degree in information science. As an undergraduate she majored in medical informatics. She previously served as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Information and Media Studies at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, where she taught information technology courses. Cui also taught while she was a graduate research assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where students nominated her for that school’s Excellent Professor Award. Cui's research focuses on the application of machine learning techniques on the management of the many kinds of information associated with biodiversity. Her research has led to a number of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at refereed conferences, and she was honored with the prestigious Berner Nash Memorial Award for outstanding doctoral dissertation. Her academic honors include winning the Jean Tague-Sutcliffe Doctoral Poster Award from the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE). The University of Arizona School of Information Resources and Library Science welcomes Cui and looks forward to her presence as SIRLS continues to expand its commitment to academic research and teaching excellence in the field of information technology and its impact on library and information science. # # # |
